Funeral Services for Eugene J. Dieter, 85, Norfolk, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Norfolk. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

He passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. Eugene Joseph was born November 25, 1932 on a farm east of Madison, NE to his parents Otto and Hannah (Feiling) Dieter. He attended school in Madison until his father died.

After his father’s death, Eugene farmed and took care of his mother, sister, Doris, and brother, Robert. Eugene married Judith Ann Dittberner on February 14, 1953. From this union, two children were born, Dayle and Rex.

The couple continued to farm until the early 1960’s. Then the family moved to Norfolk where Eugene started driving truck. He drove truck until 2003.

Eugene and Judy later divorced. He met Lois Ries. Both loved camping and traveling.

They would take month long vacations and visited every corner of the country. Lois passed away. When Eugene’s health began to fail, he had two wonderful caregiver-friends to take care of him for 2 ½ years.

He loved them and their children like they were family. Both held a special place in his heart to the end of his life. Late in 2017, Eugene moved to LaVista to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

Eugene became ill in July of this year and was forced to be moved to the Hospice House in Omaha. He lived there until his passing. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Dayle and Dave Skoumal of LaVista, son and daughter-in-law Rex and Jodie Dieter of Omaha, grandchildren Melissa Tannehill of Cody, WY, Cory Tannehill, Rose and Harry Dieter all of Omaha, great grandchildren Zachary Kessler of Casper, WY and Lillian Raile of Omaha, great-great grandchildren Jaelyn and Janelle Kessler, sister Doris Van Dyke of Columbus, and great caregivers and family friends Sara Sohl and Diana Smith.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilbert and Robert, and grandson Scott Tannehill. Memorials requested to the Hospice House The Josie Harper Residence in Omaha, NE. There’s still time to send flowers to the Visitation at the First Christian Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on September 22, 2018.
