Funeral Services for Matthew Mapes of Norfolk will be 5 p.m. Tuesday, October 16th at Home for Funerals Chapel, 708 Georgia Ave. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1350 E Pierce St, Council Bluffs, IA.

He passed away Friday, October 12th at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Matthew Sean Mapes was born in Norfolk, NE on May 27, 1963 to Merle L. Mapes, Jr and Mary L. (Foley). Upon graduation from Norfolk Senior High in 1981, Matt enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After tours at Camp Pendleton, CA and Okinawa, Japan, Matt returned to Norfolk. He married Donna K. (Salmons) and they were blessed with three beautiful daughters. A true jack-of-all-trades, Matt worked in various vocations and ultimately with his friends at Norfolk Regional Center.

He will be remembered most for his rocker-rebel spirit and unprecedented generosity. Matt is preceded in death by his father, Merle Mapes, Jr; stepfather, Dan Raasch; grandparents: Merle and Louise Mapes Sr, Alvin and Frances Bruning, and Malick and Leta Foley. He is survived by daughters: Megan(Mitch) Belger, Morgan(Dani Beersman), and Mandy(Dylan Salisbury); grandsons, Peyton and Brooks Belger; mother, Mary Raasch; stepmother, Jane(Larry) Jenkins; siblings: Mark(Sonia), Mike(Carolina), Marty, Melissa(Drew) Erra; stepsister, Sherri(Richard) Klentz; four nieces and five nephews.
