Evelyn was born in Galeton, Colorado, February 2, 1924, and left this mortal earth peacefully on April 27, 2018, at the age of 94, in her home with loved ones near. As a young girl she relocated to Denver, eventually graduating from West High School. During World War II she worked proudly as a Rosie the Riveter, and developed many friendships that lasted her lifetime.

They moved to Sparks shortly after the war and started their family. Evelyn leaves behind four daughters: Cynthia Laking (Charles), Shana Baichtal, Nicki Ghisletta (Alan), Robin Pasalich (Ian).
She was a Grandma to ten, Great Grandma to twenty one, Great-Great Grandma to two, and she had many nieces and nephews. Evelyn had a servant’s heart, happiest when she was of service to others. She intuitively knew how to help those in need without being asked.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She found her calling, serving as: Stake Relief Society President, Girls Camp cook, Primary Leader, Stake Missionary and numerous other callings. She also found time to volunteer throughout the community with March of Dimes, VA Hospital, Life Line, and CASA to name a few.
She felt blessed to be of service. In 1982 her husband sustained a massive cerebral stroke, Evelyn provided devoted love and care to him all his remaining years, exhibiting extraordinary strength, courage, faith, and love. She lost Tom, the love of her life, in December of 2009.
A special heart felt thank you, to her daughter Shana, for the loving companionship she provided our mother during the past several years. Evelyn was a remarkable cook, and shared her meals and recipes with so many throughout her life. She was known for her delicious brownies and hot fudge sundae sauce!
Evelyn knew the roll that good meals played in helping to bind loving relationships of family and friends. Being raised during the depression, she learned to value and appreciate what she had, but still always willing to share with others in need. Evelyn opened her heart to others, never thinking twice about giving of herself, she was a wonderful warm hearted person who made all the difference in many lives.
A hand written note was found tucked in her dresser and it read, “We cannot feel life’s losses without first feeling the blessings of its fullness. Keep in mind, sorrow is a fleeting emotion, but love is infinite”. Evelyn leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and heart felt memories for her friends and family to cherish.
In honor of Evelyn’s wishes there will not be a funeral service. On May 12, 2018, at Mountain View Mortuary and Cemetery a viewing will begin at 10:00 am with a graveside dedication following at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please remember Evelyn by showering kindness and serving others each and every day.
