Obituary for Evelyn Phillips Bertie Evelyn “Toogie” Wiseman Phillips, age 82, of Bob Taylor Lane in Newland, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. Born on April 26, 1936 in Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Jess Aaron and Sadie Aldridge Wiseman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters; Isabelle Ballew and Susie Wiseman, her brothers; Joe Wiseman, Ralph Wiseman, Jessie Tom Wiseman and Mack Thomas Wiseman.

Evelyn was a member of the Walnut Grove Church. She enjoyed dancing and clogging to Blue grass music and loved canning jelly to give to her friends and family. Evelyn was very good with her hand and was always trying to make different crafts.

Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Alvin Phillips, Malachi Phillips and Rex Andrew Phillips, all of Newland, her sisters; Beulah Carpenter, of Newland, Betty Thomas and husband Phil of Bakersville and Emma Boone and husband Paul of Newland, her brother; Robert N. Wiseman and his wife Millie of Newland, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at a Graveside service honoring the life of Bertie Evelyn Phillips on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Walnut Grove Church Cemetery.
