Evelyn Sewell Armstrong, March 05, 1924 — May 22, 2018

Obituary for Evelyn Sewell Armstrong Evelyn Sewell Armstrong; a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend; passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side this past Tuesday morning, May 22, 2018 at the well enjoyed age of 94. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Sherman James Armstrong; her parents James Monroe Sewell and Bessie Reid Sewell; her twin Sister Kathleen “Kat” Beasley and Kat’s husband Fred. Evelyn is survived by her only son, Sherrill James Armstrong and her daughter-in-law Janice Daniel Armstrong; her granddaughter Shannon McGarry; her grandson Darryl Armstrong and his wife Terri; and her great grandchildren Trent Armstrong and Alycia Jennings and her husband Jason.

Evelyn was also very close to her twin nieces Sandra Beasley Plummer and Shirley Beasley Starling and a host of grand nieces and nephews; and had many wonderful friends. Evelyn, yes, everyone called her Evelyn, was frequently compared to actress Doris Day because of her beauty, her delightful smile, and her lovely personality. Raised in Sayerton, a coal mining town just north of Birmingham, Evelyn moved to Warrior, with her husband Sherman in 1940, and she remained there all her life.

She was a career woman who began working at St. Regis Paper Company in 1954 and continued there for 37 years until retirement in 1991. Evelyn was an independent and “fiesty” Lady, however she was also a warm soul who loved social gatherings with family and friends. Her bright and delightful presence was enjoyed by everyone at these social gatherings and she will be greatly missed.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Home Health Care in Jasper; Hospice Comfort Care in Pelham; and the many caretakers who assisted Janice and Sherrill in the last year. A special appreciation goes to Janice Meadows for the gentle care she gave to Evelyn during this time. A graveside service was held on May 24, 2018 followed by burial at Cain Creek Cemetery.
