Fannie Rose Cowles, of Saybrook Township, was 102 years old when she died Sunday (May 12th) at Saybrook Landing in Saybrook Twp. She was born June 6, 1916 in Huntsburg, Ohio the daughter of Paul Richard and Lyda (Scott) White and had lived in Ashtabula and Saybrook since1948. She is a member of the Ashtabula Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and she enjoyed participating in her ministry.

Fannie was an avid reader, and when she was a child she enjoyed reading all of the Zane Grey novels, among others. She loved music and also loved to dance. She was an excellent seamstress doing alterations for many years; even making wedding dresses.

Most of all she loved spending time with, and caring for, her grandchildren. Surviving her are her children, Barbara (Benjamin) Gast of Valparaiso, Indiana, Larry (Linda) Hites of Painesville, Richard Cowles of Columbia, South Carolina, David (Joanne) Cowles of Erie, Pa. Susan (Donald) Mack of Saybrook Twp.

, Robert Cowles of Ashtabula, Raymond (Mary K.) Cowles of Brea, California, Russell (Pamela) Cowles of Saybrook; 24 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Horace Russell Cowles in 1999, her daughter, and son-in-law, Faye and David Bard; her step son, Horace Edwin Cowles; her granddaughter, Johanna Bauer; a great grandson, Michael Gast; a step granddaughter, Beverly Cowles; her daughters-in-law, Barbara Hites and Wilma Cowles, and her sister, and brother-in-law, Pearl and David Mullen. A memorial will be Saturday (June 1st) at 5:00 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3420 South Ridge Rd.

West, Ashtabula. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery at a later date. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Ashtabula Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at Saybrook Landing for the wonderful care they gave their mother.
