Florence E. (Stavnitsky) Decker, 90, passed away on March 23, 2019, at Connecticut Baptist Home in Meriden, with her daughter by her side. Florence was born on February 6, 1929, in New Britain, daughter of Austrian immigrants John and Anna (Glatz) Stavnitsky. She grew up in New Britain graduating from St. Matthews Lutheran School and New Britain High School class of 1946.

Her professional life was spent at United Technologies as an executive assistant at Pratt and Whitney in Southington and Otis Elevator in Farmington, retiring in 1987. Florence was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and most recently a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden. Florence was predeceased by her husband, Daniel “Jim” Decker, in 1998.

After their retirements, they resided in New Port Richey, FL in the winter and on Maine’s Lake Thompson in the summer. As the sun rose you would see them heading out to fish. Jim died just months after their 50th anniversary.

Florence is survived by her only child, Kathy Ann (Decker) Wicz and her son-in -law Frank L. Wicz, both of Unionville,CT. , grandchild Amy Lynne L’Heureux and her husband Brian L’Heureux , and two precious great-grandchildren, Kaycee Marie and Harper Lynne. Florence recently lost her best friend Barbara Berntson.

They were friends from childhood, enjoyed traveling, church activities and living together at Ct. Baptist Homes for many years. Her five older siblings John, Anna, William, Evelyn and George also predeceased their baby sister.

The family would like to thank the staff at Connecticut Baptist Homes in Meriden. The kindness and professionalism shown to Florence was simply remarkable. We thank you with all our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church 520 Paddock Ave. Meriden, CT. , 06450, on Friday March 29 at 11AM followed by a noon luncheon at the same location.

Burial will be held privately. There are no calling hours. Florence was honored by the Red Cross for reaching her goal of 10 donated gallons.
