Florence “Flo” Simon Melanson was born February 20, 1924, and entered into eternal peace on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the age of 95. Florence was a native of Vacherie, LA, and a resident of Westwego, LA, for over 70 years. Florence is preceded in death by her father, Remy Simon, Sr.; mother, Mirtilde Scioneaux Simon; husband, Joseph “Joe” Melanson; sisters, Carrie Peltier (Clarence “Tut”), Eunice Robinson (Edwin), and Josephine Essie Percle (Joseph); brothers, Addis “Boone” Simon, Sr. (Irma), Ulyess Simon (Florence), Remy Simon, Jr. (Elaine), and Claude Simon (Beatrice); daughter-in-law, Kay Laurent Melanson; and many other family members and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Ulysses Thomas “Tommy” Melanson and Steve Joseph Melanson, and granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Melanson. Florence lived a wonderful life. She loved being with family and often told stories about her childhood and life.

Chackbay, LA, held a special place in her heart, and she visited often over the years. Florence was a beautician for over 50 years. She greatly enjoyed her vocation and made many friends along the way.

Florence will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and family member. She will be remembered for her love of family, friendship, hard work, and goodness. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd.

, Marrero, LA, on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 10 am to 11 am. A Prayer Service will follow. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Mausoleum in Westwego, LA.
