Floyd’s Obituary Floyd DeBarros, age 93, of Springfield Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in East Longmeadow Mass. Floyd was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Saturday, December 12, 1925.
He is survived by his wife Louise of 66 years, one sister, Anna and sister-in-law Eva, six children: Deborah, Audrey, Carol, Donna, Sandra and Eric “Rick”, nine grandchildren: Mark, Dwayne, Joi, Aaron, Erica, Giovanni, Tamare, Tiana, Kameron: eighteen great grandchildren: Destiny, Mark “Relli”, Ocean, Deja, Dominic, Amarie, Cataleya, Charlee, Zion, Harel, Talia, Jordan, Marquise, Chloe, Jaylen, Nasyre, Kayden, Nylah, one great great grandchild: Jessiah, son-in-law Robert, daughter-in-law Tess. Also, close family members, husband and wives of grandchildren Kevin, Tasha, Meiye, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mildred DeBarros, his brothers Nelson, Gordon, William, Russell, sister Jean and granddaughter Brielle.
Before Floyd started a family, he served in the United States Navy. To support his family he worked conscientiously, over 30 years, for Hampden Color and Chemical Company and was a valued employee of Veterans Memorial Golf Course for almost 30 years. .
Floyd was not just an avid golfer, he was a great golfer. He was well established in the golf communities at Springfield Veterans golf course, not only as a member and officer of the prestigious Home City Golf Club but also a long time employee of Veterans Memorial golf course for approximately 30 years. Golf was his passion!
He loved the sport so much that he often volunteered annually to teach Springfield Youth golfing fundamentals. He was also a terrific bowler and horseshoe player. Floyd was a dedicated husband and father to 6 children.
He spent many fun hours with them playing card games, board games, hide and go seek, trips to the beach, cookouts, miniature golf, visiting local parks and many more memorable experiences. With his wife Louise, they ensured the family was raised with a strong spiritual foundation. They attended Bethel A.M.E. Church while being taught the importance of growing up to become responsible, reliable and dependable adults.
He was very proud of their achievements in life and bragged about them every chance he got. When the grand children arrived he was no longer daddy, he was PopPop. They loved their PopPop and the fun games they played together.
Floyd loved listening to music, especially jazz, and played the saxophone. He was also known to “cut a rug” when on the dance floor. Our Floyd lived a long beautiful life and touched many people in deep and profound ways.
May our memories of the many roles and contributions he made in our life bring us joy and strength as we continue on this life journey.
