Obituary for Frances Boland Lindler Thomas Mrs. Frances Boland Lindler Thomas, 89, of Lexington, a resident of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, widow of Rev. Samuel Norman Thomas, Sr., passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at Lexington Medical Center. She was born January 7, 1929 in Columbia, a daughter of the late Arthur Boland Lindler, Sr. and Athalie Nisbet Lindler.

Mrs. Thomas graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC. She then attended Winthrop University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. Mrs. Thomas then moved to Richmond, Virginia, where she attended and received her Master’s Degree from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education (PSCE).

It was also there where she met her future husband, Rev. Sam Thomas, who was attending Union Theological Seminary. She was a wonderful mother to their four children and devoted to her fifteen grandchildren.

By her character and daily example, Mrs. Thomas instilled Christian virtues in all of them. Mrs. Thomas was an avid sports enthusiast. She followed Davidson College, Lancaster High School and the Atlanta Braves.

Later in life, Mrs. Thomas, became a follower of Lexington High School (S.C.) basketball. She also liked to read and keep up with church activities, as well as grandchildren’s interests. Mrs. Thomas also enjoyed spending time in her summer home in Montreat, NC.

Fran and Rev. Sam Thomas were married for sixty years. She faithfully served and supported her husband’s religious calling.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Thomas will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edgar McCall officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by two sons, Sam Thomas, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Athens, Georgia and Jim Thomas and his wife Betsy of Young Harris, Georgia; two daughters, Genie Morgan and her husband Steve of Sanford, NC and Beth Harris and her husband Bailey of Lexington, SC; two sisters, Rea Lindler and Betty Ann Lindler both of Lexington; fifteen grandchildren, Maggie, Rollie, Maria, Ian, Hannah, Ada, Janey, Jake, Locke, Scott, Stephanie, Samantha, Drew, Thomas and Eliza; and two great grandchildren, Ellie and Jonah. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Lindler, Jr.; and two sisters, Gene Lindler and Athalie Lindler. The family will receive friends following the service.
