Francis Holt “Frankie” Moore of Asheville, NC died on January 9th at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. Frankie was preceded in death by her parents, Larry I Moore Jr and Grace Hawkins Thompson Moore, and by her sisters, Grace T Moore and Meta King Moore Melchior. She is survived by her brothers, Larry I Moore III of Greensboro and Craig R Moore of Wilson; nieces Hannah Moore Harrison (Steve) of Charlotte and Meta Moore Daniel of Orlando; nephews August (Danielle) Melchior and Frank Melchior of Raleigh, Reuben (Nicole) Moore of Durham, Winston Moore of Austin; brother-in-law August “BB” Melchior of Wilson; and her lifelong friends Joanne Fridley and Chris Justice of Charlottesville, Kasse Andrews-Weller of Washington, DC, and Jennifer Wiggins Moore of Durham.

Frankie studied art at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond in preparation for her career as a painter and sculptor. While at VCU she exhibited her work at the University’s Anderson Gallery and throughout the Richmond area. She worked at King’s Dominion in Doswell, VA during its formative years as a designer and fabricator of animated sculptures throughout the park.

She also worked for the North Carolina Zoo for several years as a designer and fabricator of elements for animal habitats. Renowned artist Andrew Wyeth complimented Frankie’s paintings and sculptures and encouraged to pursue her passion in art as a career. Among Frankie’s most notable works were sculptures commissioned by the Natural History Museum, the American History Museum, and the National Zoo (each an element of the Smithsonian Institution), and the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

She has designed and made the prototypes for numerous garden sculptures that were replicated for retail sale, and many of her paintings and sculptures are in private collections. Frankie was a gentle and loving soul with an indominatable spirit. Arrangements for a memorial service are pending.
