Francis L. Miller, 96, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. Francis was born April 19, 1923 in Evansville to the late Marcus and Bertha (Schmitt) Miller. He was a graduate of St. Boniface School and Memorial High School where he participated in sports, was a member of the marching band and other activities.

Francis served in the United States Army during WWII in the 3515 Ordnance Maintenance Company 4th E.S.B. as a technician 5th grade. He was a past commander of the Everette Burdette American Legion Post 187. Francis served on and chaired numerous committees, including the West Side Nut Club, West Side Optimist Club, West Side Business and Professional Organization and the Boy Scouts of America.

At the time of his death, Francis was the oldest living member of the West Side Nut Club. Most of his adult life, Francis was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where his six sons attended grade school. He was very active in both the school and the church and chaired the committee to raise funds to build St. Agnes School.

After Francis’ retirement, he moved to Solarbron Pointe on the westside of Evansville. He was again very active at Solarbron and considered the Pointe his home for many years. Surviving Francis are six sons, Francis L. (Ginny) Miller, Lawrence Miller, Donald (Terri) Miller, Richard Miller, Kenneth (Janice) Miller and Bernard Miller; one sister, Ruth Miller; grandchildren, Andrea, Allison, Aaron, Dana, Dax, Logan, Nathan, Alyssa, Erika, Kelly, Lindsey, Kristi, Kenny and Megan and eighteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Esther (Diehl) Miller in 2001; by two sisters, Anita Kleinberg and Cornelia Deane and by three brothers, Lawrence, Edgar and Eugene Miller. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Rev. John Brosmer officiating.

Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 AM until service time on Thursday at St. Agnes Church.
