Obituary for Frank Andrew Drain Print Frank Andrew Drain, departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, January 28, 2019. He was born on Monday, April 3, 1950, in Thomaston Georgia to parents Bennie Gus and Eula Mae (King) Drain. He grew up and lived in Battle Creek Michigan.
Frank accepted Christ at a very young age. He joined St. Mark C.M.E. Church and served in many capacities under the leadership of the late Pastor Robert L. Gordon. He attended Battle Creek Public Schools.
After high school graduation, he advanced his education by attending and graduating from the RETS Electronic School of Detroit Michigan, and served as a local disc jockey in the Detroit area. He served in the United States Army where he received an Honorable Military Service Discharge. While stationed in Fort Benjamin Harrison Indianapolis he served as a Television Technician for many local universities.
He later was employed with the Kellogg Cereal Factory for nearly 40 years as an Electronic Instrument Repair Technician, retiring in 2013. Frank was an avid golfer who began playing as a young man. He perfected his golfing skills while serving as a caddy for the Battle Creek Country Club as a teen.
Frank loved his children and grandchildren. He often would plan trips and outings with his families, such as Cedar Point and Hawaii, fusing the two things he loved most family and travel. (and of course golf!
) He also enjoyed hosting and planning family BBQ’s in which he shared with the neighborhood, family, and friends. He was celebrated and praised for his mouth watering BBQ chicken, and ribs. His late mother, Eula M. Drain, would always say “Andrew has a good heart”, due to his extreme generously and giving nature.
This was demonstrated by his contributions to various churches, and organizations. He rarely met a stranger, and if you wanted to have a conversation he was always willing to engage you! Frank was formerly married to Rosa Lee (Tate) Mobley.
He leaves to mourn four sons, Frank Sedrick (Melanie Muhammad)Drain, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mark Anthony Drain of Merrillville Indiana, Arbrey Andre Drain, Grand Rapids, and Jeremy Andrew Drain, of Battle Creek. Seven grandchildren Breon Carter-Muhammad, Amani Asiya Muhammad, Maliha Mahasin Muhammad, Marquez Drain, Marah Drain-Davis, Marquan Drain-Davis, Malajah Drain and one great-granddaughter Manhiya-Drain-Davis. Father, Bennie Gus Drain, Battle Creek, MI, one brother Bennie (Johnnie) Drain, Battle Creek, three sisters Tricia (John)Cunningham, Southfield Michigan, Kristena (William)Howard, Battle Creek, and Charlene M. Drain of Battle Creek Michigan.
Frank was preceded in death by his dear mother Eula Mae Drain in 2014. He leaves behind a host of loving nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, and cousins who will miss him dearly, along with special friends Stanley, (Beatrice) Wheeler, Brenda Banks, Charles, and JoAnn Knox.
