Passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center in Saginaw. He was born October 22, 1932 on the family farm east of North Star, the son of R. G. and Helen (Cowdrey) Sherman. Fred graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1950.

On August 9, 1952 he married Norma Eberspeaker at the Pompeii Methodist Church. They resided in the Ithaca area where he did farming and shop work. After moving to S. Hemlock Road he worked construction and farming, and then was employed at Dow Corning in Midland for 29 years.

He enjoyed visiting with people and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Family and friends were very important to him and his grandchildren were a very special blessing. Fred was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church.

He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1957. Fred served as Master four times and also Junior Deacon at the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #313. This meant a lot to him and he looked forward to serving.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Sherman of Saginaw; a son Michael (Candace) Sherman of St. Charles; a daughter, Patricia (Michael) Harbin of Gaylord; three grandchildren, Shawn (Amy) Harbin of Greenville, NC, Scott (Kourtney) Harbin of Georgetown, TX and Melanie Sherman of Columbus, GA; and a sister, Ethel (Roland) Anderson of Williamston. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlene Bateman, and three brothers, Francis, Roscoe and Richard Sherman. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road.

Rev. Michael Vollmer will officiate. A Masonic Service will be led by the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #313.

Burial will follow in Fremont Township Cemetery – Nelson. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Nelson United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
