Obituary for Frederick “Skip” J. Sawyer III Frederick J. ‘Skip’ Sawyer, III, born in Houston TX, September 19, 1947, for more than 50 years Skip Sawyer proudly called Memphis home. On July 4, 2018, following a struggle with esophageal cancer, he finished life in his earthly home and, in his quiet, humble way, moved on to a heavenly home to join the love of his life, the late Sherri Roberson Sawyer. He received a degree in history from what was then called Memphis State University and spent his business career in the software, technology and information management industry.

He was VP of Sales for Memphis-based Data Communications Corporation and further advanced his specialized profession by commuting to Springfield MA, working with software company,VCI Solutions. Because of his love of Memphis BBQ, he developed a following as a renowned BBQ expert through involvement with Memphis in May. Skip served on the Board of Directors of the Memphis BBQ Network and travelled to many contests over the past 30 years as a certified BBQ judge.

He was the son of the late Frederick J. and Nina Sawyer and brother of the late Paige Lynn Sawyer. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Anna Katherine and Sawyer Adam Wright, with whom he lovingly spent his last waking moments, surrounded by family, smiling and playing with their new toys. He leaves two children, Addison Breckenridge ‘Breck’ Sawyer (Amber) of Lakeland,!

TN and Collin Sawyer Wright (Matt) of Prior Lake, MN and their children Anna Katherine and Sawyer Adam. He is also survived by one brother, Davis Addison ‘Buzz’ Sawyer of Denver Co. Memorial service and internment will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10th at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1720 Peabody Ave, Memphis. A reception in Grace-St. Luke’s Trezevant Hall will immediately follow.
