Frederick T. Domaratz, 94, of Harmar, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Rebecca Residence. He was born Nov. 23, 1923, in Harmarville, to his parents, the late Frank and Sophie Bulwan Domaratz, and has been a lifelong resident of the community.

Mr. Domaratz served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater of operations, achieving rank of tech sergeant, and being awarded the Bronze Star. After his discharge, he worked for IBM Corp. as a field engineer specialist, covering territories from Kansas to New York.

He retired from IBM after 42 years of service. Fred was very civic minded, serving in many local and regional affiliations. He was a charter member of Harmar Volunteer Fire Company No.

1, where he was president for many years. He also served with Harmar Township Planning Commission and Harmar Water Authority. Fred was a longtime member of the board of supervisors, serving as the chairman for many years, which led him to get involved with regional boards, such as the Allegheny Valley North Council of Governments.

He was a member and former chairman of the Allegheny League of Municipalities as a member and former chairman, as well as being active in the Municipal Risk Management Trust and State Township Associations. Fred was the president of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Vladimir’s Byzantine Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he was a devoted member, making the wonderful pierogi that many people in the valley enjoyed eating. Mr. Domaratz was awarded the Papal medal in 1998 from John Paul II for his outstanding work and commitment to his church.

Surviving him are sons, Frederick (Lori) Domaratz, of Harmar, Joseph Domaratz, of Arnold, daughters, Helen Domaratz Ting, of Colorado, and Frances (James) Szarnicki, of West Leechburg; brother, Henry (Geraldine) Domaratz, of Ohio; sister-in-law, Betty Domaratz; grandchildren, Heather Veltri, Jason (Chrissy Wanamaker) Domaratz, Lynne Szarnicki (David) Rau, Stephen (Tamra) Szarnicki and Janice Ting; six great-grandchildren;and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Batcher Domaratz, and brother, Anthony. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Vladimir’s Church, in Arnold.

, 801 Pittsburgh St. Parastas services will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Panakhida will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with funeral service to follow in St. Vladimir’s Church at 9 a.m. with Father Yaroslov Koval officiating. Burial will follow in Deer Creek Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his late wife, Florence.
