Frieda Shebel May 12, 1923 – October 26, 2018 Frieda Shebel, 95, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, October 26, 2018 at 4:05 am in Trail Creek Place, Michigan City, IN. Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, Michigan City, IN. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

She was born May 12, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Lendli) Turk. On October 26, 1950 in Michigan City, IN she married Michael A. Shebel who preceded her in death on November 27, 1984. Surviving are two daughters, Anne (John) Powell of Hockessin, DE and Michelle Karlowsky of Demotte, IN; three sons, Michael (Carolyn) Shebel of The Villages, FL, Mark (Amy) Shebel of LaPorte, IN and Matthew (Mary Kay) Shebel of LaPorte, IN; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Julie Catranis and Irene Zeichman; brother, Joseph Turk; and her great-grandchild, Reid Karlowsky. Frieda was a member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, The Rosary Sodality, Coolspring Township Democratic Club, Coolspring Project Club, Coolspring Township Farm Bureau and TOPS. She was a dedicated volunteer for St. Mary’s Thrift Shop and also volunteered for many election cycles as an election poll worker.

Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, 411 W. 11th St., Michigan City, IN 46360.
