Beloved mother, nana and sister passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison, with her family by her side. She was 72 years old. Garlin Lou Tate was born on February 20, 1946 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Louis and Ruth (Steltzriede) Tate.

Garlin was a proud 1964 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. She was employed as a secretary with the Saginaw Board of Education for many years before working as a medical biller with Covenant Health Care; retiring after 30 years of service. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

Garlin loved to go shopping and boating with her friends up state to Mackinaw and St. Ignace. Garlin also enjoyed traveling to Georgia, going to the movies, attending the Broadway series and the fun times with the Golden Girls. Above all she loved and cherished her children and grandchildren.

She will forever be remembered for her smile that could light up a room and for her loving and caring spirit. Surviving are a son and daughter: Jason A. Dovin of Saginaw and Molly L. Simon and her fiancé, Ricky Johnson of Saginaw; two grandchildren: Mayia and Ricky “R.J.”; one sister, Diane Loiselle of Freeland; two nieces: Cathy (David) Alexander and Toni Potts and Bob; two great-nieces and two great-nephews: Jeffrey Loiselle and Sydney, Jessica and Colton Potts; a best friend, Marcia (Dick) Schade of Midland. Also surviving are many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Lawrence Loiselle and Gerald Dovin; a sister-in-law, Janice Dovin; and a nephew Christopher Loiselle. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at Covenant HealthCare ICU – Harrison for the love and care they provided to Garlin. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss Street.

Pastor Michael Korte will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
