Shreve – Garrol Robert Acker, 64, of Shreve, passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2019. He was born in Wooster on October 22, 1954, the son of Robert and Marie (Armstrong) Acker. He married Gretchen (Fites) Acker on August 31, 1985.

She survives. Garrol was a 1973 graduate of West Holmes High School. He was a life-long farmer and owned and operated Acker Farms Trucking since graduation.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved basketball. He coached youth and AAU basketball for many years, was an active member of the West Holmes Athletic Booster Club, being the president for 5 years, and loved college basketball. Garrol has been involved in NTPA-OSTPA Tractor Pulling.

He had a great love of animals especially of pony pulling and dogs, the racing Earnhart’s, a great love for his friends both near and far and was a “Drew Carey” look-alike. Garrol’s outgoing personality made him a friend to everyone, and he knew someone everywhere he went in his travels. In addition to his beloved wife, Gretchen, he is survived by son, Cory Acker whom he loved dearly.

Garrol coached and followed Cory through various sports and shared a love of pulling and trucking. He is also survived by his mother, Marie Acker, and sisters, Barbara Wells and Charlotte Gilfoil Brumme all of Shreve; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and sister-in-law, Sandra (William) Fites – White. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert and in-laws, Albert and Betty Fites Jr. Funeral services will be held at Alexander Funeral Home, 8612 State Route 39, Millersburg, on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Diane McCartney officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and also one hour prior to the services on Monday. Those wishing to share a memory or make on-line condolences may do so by visiting www. alexanderfhinc.com.
