Gary Ricketts, loving husband and father, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, April 13, 2018. He fought a great fight, and beat the odds, laid out by the doctors, by nearly 5 years. He said cancer made him a better man, and everyday he tried to make someone’s day better by sharing his story with everyone who would listen.

He hoped that his strength gave many others the strength to fight harder to survive. Born in Long Beach, CA to Gary and Eileen Ricketts, both of whom he survived. He worked at the Lincoln County Juvenile Correction Facility, as well as the Lincoln County School District, and felt that he made a positive difference in the lives of the kids that passed through the doors.

For many years he was an EMT-I/fire fighter, working with the Siletz Fire District, and together they saved many lives and some homes. Currently he was on the board for the Siletz Fire District helping them to get grants for equipment, training, and retrofitting the building for earthquakes. Gary is survived by his wife of 26 years, Karen and his beautiful daughter Sara, his son in law Taylor, his brother Mitchell, and Karen’s family who loved him dearly.

He will be missed by far more people than he ever dreamed. Viewing will be Friday, April 27th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and Saturday, April 28th, from 11:00 to 12:00 at Bateman Funeral Home, service to follow at 12:00. Grave side is at Eureka Cemetery.
