Cheraw, SC Mr. Gary Hughes, age 64, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 1, 2019 at The Living Word by Pastor Scott Adams with burial to follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Hughes was born October 1, 1954 in Fort Monmouth, N.J. a son of Edith Mauser Ruess and the late Lynn Ruess. He was the former owner and operator of Sub Station II of Cheraw and was formerly employed with Palmetto Subs as Vice President of Operations with JB Foods. Gary was a faithful member of The Living Word and was known as the official greeter, always smiling and giving a big wave to everyone who passed.

He was also an honors student receiving his diploma from S.M.T.I. Bible School. In his free time, he could always be found working around the church, mowing the grass, and taking care of God’s house.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Donna Hughes of the home; children, Anthony (Britney) Bryant of Cheraw, SC, Jasmine (Daniel) Reule of Summerville, SC, and Johnathan Hughes and Aaron Hughes both of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Brooke, Jacob, Kyle, and Kaylia; siblings, Greg Hughes, Gail Scanlan, Gwen Hughes, Cathy Hughes, Chris Ruess, and Linda Harvey; also numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice for the love and care shown to Mr. Hughes and his family. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield, SC (www.
