Richmondville- Gary J. Prescott, 73, of Main Street, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at his residence following a long illness. Born May 31, 1945 in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Dolman and Helena (Briggs) Prescott. Gary retired after eighteen years of working for New York State and then was a self-employed contractor.

For enjoyment, he did woodworking, and was a hunter and fisherman. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jane Pleickhardt. Survivors include his wife, Connie Prescott; four children: Gary (Rennie) Prescott of Rio Rancho, NM, Barbara Prescott of Schenectady, Mary (David) Morabito of Ballston Spa, and Elissa (Eric) Orth of CO; five siblings: Mary Briggs, Paul Prescott, Sheila Nolette, Garnet Prescott and Phillip Prescott; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a period of visitation will be held prior, from 1 to 2 PM. Officiating will be Hospice Chaplain Rev. Bruce Helstrom.

Cremation will follow the service at Vale Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memoriam of Gary to be made to Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc., PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092 or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 297 River St. Service Road, Oneonta, NY 13820.
