Obituary for Gary J. Weinzapfel Gary Weinzapfel, 70, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus. Gary was born March 21, 1948 in Evansville to the late Clarence “Dick” and Loretta (Wannemuehler) Weinzapfel.

He worked as an electrician at General Electric in Mt. Vernon for over 35 years and owned and operated Weinzapfel’s Tavern for 15 years. Spending time with his grandchildren was his joy.

He also enjoyed working on his 1937 Buick, painting and working at the tavern. Surviving Gary are his wife of 50 years, Mary (Deig) Weinzapfel; two daughters, Kelly (Kirk) Birchler and Karen (Jerry) Crow, both of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Carol Money of Evansville, Judy (Chris) Kissel of Wadesville and Sue (Tony) Velotta of Mukwongo, WI and one brother, Tim (Nette) Weinzapfel of Mt.

Vernon. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Haylee, McKenna, Cameron, Thea and Macy Birchler and Braxtyn Crow. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Weinzapfel and by a granddaughter, Skylar Crow.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating, Burial will follow in the St. Philip Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:30 AM until service time on Tuesday at St. Philip Church.
