Obituary for Richard David Baker Richard David Baker,62, passed away on Monday July 16, 2018 at his residence in Sugar Land, TX. Richard was born December 20, 1955 in Evansville, IN to W. Robert Baker and Alma (Folz) Baker. He is survived by his loving family: his beloved wife Beverly Weifeng Baker, beloved son Robert Dylan Baker, brother Stephen Baker, sisters, Sally O’Hallaron, Diane (Tom) Mowatt, Cynthia Runge and nieces Denise O’Hallaron, Katherine Leich, Laura Farris, Jennifer Brinson and many close friends.

Richard graduated from Evansville Day School in 1973. He completed his undergraduate work at Tulane University in 1977 and obtained his MBA at Indiana University in 1987. Richard had a talent and passion for music.

He started his music career as a drummer, but fell in love with the guitar. Richard was a self-taught guitar player. He formed several bands throughout his music career.

He and his band Good Wave, performed at the New Orleans World’s Fair. Richard also played guitar with Aaron Neville, The Meters, and Paul Simon. Richard was a songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist who sang, played and recorded many of his original songs.

Many of his songs are included in his original double album “Edge of Time”. Richard worked in his father’s construction company in his youth where he learned his first business skills. That experience also gave him an entrepreneurial dream.

After graduation from IU he worked for Bank One as a special assistant to the CFO. In the mid 1990’s, Richard purchased an office equipment service business, Digital Networks, in Houston TX. In 2009, he founded and operated Baker Construction Company in Sugar Land, TX.

Richard was serious and particular about his family, his music, and his construction business. Richard was a fun, humorous, and playful person who brought joy and laughter to the people around him. Richard was a very straightforward and honest man who stayed true to himself throughout his life.

He lived his dreams, just like the lyrics of one of the songs he wrote, “There will come a day that I will say that I lived my life the way a rocker should”.
