Gary’s Obituary Gary Lee Gernak, Sr., age 62 of Penbrook, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. He was born on March 10, 1957 in Harrisburg, PA a son of the late George and Betty (Rose) Gernak. Gary was a graduate of Central Dauphin East High School Class of 1975 where he participated in the Drama club and played percussion.

He was currently employed at Stroehmann (Tuckey’s) Bakery Outlet in Harrisburg and was a former mailroom employee with AMP, Incorporated. Gary was a member of the Boy Scouts of America achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was a former member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge, Penbrook Fire Company and an umpire for the Hershey Baseball Association.

Gary enjoyed skiing and served on Ski Roundtop’s Ski Patrol. He was an avid bowler skillfully bowling a perfect 300 on February 4, 2008 at Red Crown’s bowling leagues. He was a true fan of NASCAR as well as his Green Bay Packers.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a daughter Alexandra Rebecca Gernak. Surviving are his loving wife Sue (Cook) Gernak; four children Noelle Stefanowicz of Harrisburg, Helena Gernak and fiancé Jonathan Taylor of Highspire, Chelsea Gernak and Gary Gernak, Jr. both of Harrisburg; a step daughter Angie Berkheimer and husband Luke of West York; a grandson Nathaniel Stefanowicz and two step-grandchildren Max and Owen Berkheimer. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions are made in memory of Gary to help defray his funeral expenses. Donations can be made payable to Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
