Geneva Mae Sechrest, 85, of Urbana passed away at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at University Rehab in Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Urbana. Pastor Rich Gregory will officiate.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Burial will take place at McGinnis Cemetery in Anna, IL after the funeral. Geneva was born in Grand Chain, IL on January 10, 1934 to parents Floyd and Elsie (Tillman) Evans.

They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were three brothers and one sister. On December 24, 1957 Geneva married John David Sechrest in Anna, IL; he passed away on April 8, 2002.

She is survived by her children; Darrell Sechrest of Urbana and John Sechrest Jr. (Marge) of Urbana, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great grandchild that is on the way. Her siblings; Bernita Frerichs of Champaign, Helen Saddoris of Urbana, Donald Evans of Marion and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Geneva was a homemaker and provided childcare in her home; she was a member of Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church and served many years faithfully in the church nursery, where she deeply enjoyed loving on the babies.

Geneva loved to travel, fish and vacation with her family. Memorial contributions may be made in Geneva’s honor to Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church or to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; Geneva was an eighteen year breast cancer survivor.
