Gennie Marie Kingbird, age 41, “Gezhibaay-aashiik” which means “Whirl Wind Woman” of Ponemah, Minnesota began her journey to the spirit world on Sunday, January 6, 2018 from the Red Lake IHS Hospital in Red Lake, MN. She was born in Bemidji, MN on April 22, 1977, the daughter of Bernice and Alfred Kingbird, Sr. Gennie was a very happy person, she loved spending time with her family, her job and joking around to make people laugh. She loved to watch her daughter play basketball and attended every game she could.

She will by missed by all who knew her, especially her family. Family that Gennie joins again are her mother; Bernice Kingbird, grandparents; John and Julia Kingbird, Sarah and Fred Kingbird, Sr., aunties; Brenda, Roberta, Carol and Verna Kingbird, Regina French, Elsie Burr, Lillian Jones and Grace Perkins, uncles; Harlan Kingbird, Sr., Francis Stillday, Gerry Kingbird and Fred Kingbird, Jr. Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her daughter; Miyah Kingbird, sons; Clarence Patterson, Jr., Damon Patterson, Ethan Kingbird and Jeremiah Kingbird, Jr., her father; Alfred Kingbird, Sr., brothers; Lonny (Bobbi Jo) Kingbird of Redby, T’Jay Kingbird, Tobie (Colette) Kingbird, Alfred Kingbird, Jr. and Patrick Kingbird, sisters; Shanna (Alvin Johnson, Jr.) Kingbird and Leah (Linsey) Kingbird all of Ponemah, uncles; John (Rita) Kingbird, Jr. of Bemidji and Rudy Kingbird of Ponemah, aunties; Andrea (David) Rosebear and Mona Nelson both of Ponemah, Roberta (Sami) Syed of Blacklick, Ohio, Judy French, Mardel (Roland) Iceman and Elsie (Robert) Rushman all of Ponemah and Beverly Cloud of Warroad, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A wake for Gennie will begin at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 10th and continue until her traditional service 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12th all to be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Ponemah, MN.

Her Spiritual Advisors will be Zac Earley and Ty Stately. Pallbearers for Gennie will be John Kingbird III, Bobby-Joe Kingbird, Gilbert Rosebear, Linsey Iceman, Kyle Stillday and Wayne Stillday. Alternate pallbearers are Alvin Johnson, Jr., Fabian Rosebear, Jr., Brian Rosebear and Wayne Hand.

Her honorary pallbearers are all her family, friends and co-workers. Interment will be in the Kingbird Family Burial Grounds at Ponemah, MN. Gennie’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker.
