Obituary for George Andrew Boggs George Andrew Boggs August 4th, 1938 – December 20th, 2018 Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather George Andrew Boggs passed peacefully from this world surrounded by love on December 20th, 2018 in Apex, N.C. George is survived by his devoted wife Freda Elizabeth (Butcher) Boggs; his loving children Mike (Donna) Boggs, Susan (Ron) Byers and Catherine Boggs; grandchildren Shawn, Nathan, Andrew and Elizabeth Boggs, Megan and Jason Byers, and Marshall Boggs; and five great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents Carmel and Anna Mae (Acree) Boggs, brother Herbert Boggs, and sister Agnes (Boggs) Carte. George was born in Pinch, WV, and at the age of 17 looking for adventure, he joined the United States Air Force.

In the Air Force, he found his calling. His love of country and devotion to excellence helped him excel in a career that spanned 30 years and concluded with him achieving rank of SR. Master Sargent by retirement.

For many years, George was a flight engineer on various aircrafts both nationally and internationally. While raising a family, George and Freda moved 10 times, spending five years in Athens, Greece and seven years in Manila, Philippines where George was on a special assignment with the Defense Attaché Office at the U.S. Embassy. He also spent one tour in Vietnam during the war.

He and Freda formed many lasting friendships everywhere they called home. George received many medals, honors and recognitions in his career including: Distinguished Flying Cross, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, AF Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and many more. George was an amazing husband, father and grandfather.

He inspired us with his strength and courage, and always led by example. He was there whenever and for whatever we needed, making us laugh along the way. Most of all, he was our hero and he will be forever loved and missed.

Service will be 7:00 pm Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at the Hafer Funeral Home, with Pastor Lee Swor officiating. With military rites conducted by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin and US Air Force Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Dec. 27, 2018 at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.
