George Edwin Fowler September 17, 1941 – November 20, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card George Edwin Fowler, 77, of Tama, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at home due to a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Haven Cemetery in rural Tama.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home. George was born on September 17, 1941, on the family home in rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Ruth (Hand) Fowler. George graduated from Tama High School.

He studied music education at Drake University, Performance and Opera at University of Iowa and studied Voice at Simpson College, Western Illinois University and Grinnell College where he was still taking lessons. Before he left Iowa, he was a vocal music instructor at St. Paul Elementary School, Eddyville Community School and Central Decatur Community School. George lived in Los Angeles for twenty-five years, retiring as an Account Executive from Carmichael International on April 2, 2004.

He was a organist for St. Rose of Lima Church, and choir director for Huntington Park Methodist Church and St. Martha Catholic Church all in Los Angeles, CA. He moved back home on April 15, 2004. His first cake decorating class was in 1995 and the first wedding cake he made was in January of 1996 for 200 people.

George won many awards for his cakes and was proud to serve as a judge for decorated cakes at the Iowa State Fair since 2010. Since moving back to Iowa, his main focus had been his cake business. Along with cakes, he also enjoyed flowers and operas.

George sang in the Grinnell Oratorio Society and loved to sing, especially Opera. His dogs were the most important part of his life. Survivors include two brothers, Dick (Winnie) Fowler of Tama, and Larry (Lori) Fowler of Tama; nieces and nephews, Steve (Pam) Fowler, Kevin Fowler (Mary Hand), Chris (Michelle) Fowler, Beth Fowler (Ben Naniot), Andy Fowler (Bethany Minkel), and Justin Young; and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund will be established.
