George Frederick Achten October 17, 1923 – February 11, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Wetmore- George Frederick Achten age 95, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2019 at the Apostolic Christian Church Home in Sabetha, KS. He was born October 17, 1923 to Frederick and Anna Achten on the family farm south of Granada. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Granada until its closing at which time he joined the United Methodist Church in Wetmore.

He was a farmer and stockman all of his life and longed to always return to the farm. He married Helen M. Mayer on January 6th, 1946. To this union was born Suzanne, Nancy and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, daughter Nancy and his brother John. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Hayosh (Bill) of Shelby Township, MI, a son James Achten (Susan) of Wetmore, KS, son-in-law Robert Stimac (Rose) of Seneca, KS, a brother, Kenneth Achten (Betty) of Redding, CA plus numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Wetmore, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Burial will be in the Granada Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wetmore United Methodist Church, c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
