George William Oakes, 47 years of age, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019. He was born on September 30, 1971 in Denver, Colorado to Ronald and Debra (Widman) Oakes. George graduated from Beatrice High School in 1990 and received an Associate’s Degree in Automotive Technology from WyoTech.

He married Amber Engelman on December 18, 1992. George worked for over 20 years at Carriage Motors, Beatrice Public Schools and most recently for Accuma. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice where he led an usher team.

George enjoyed drag racing, working on cars and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. George is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Smith and husband Ryan of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Alyssa Oakes of Beatrice, and their mother, Amber; grandchildren, Aubrey and Jaylin Smith, Mia Olvera; parents, Ron and Debra Oakes of Beatrice; brothers, Kevin Oakes and wife Melissa of Beatrice, Kenny Oakes of Nashville, Tennessee; other family including Bev and Jerry Hecox, Kim and Steve Fugett, LaVern and Cheryl Engelman, all of Beatrice; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elmer and Willa Widman, and George and Esther Oakes.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, March 25, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Rev. Ernesto Medina officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice.

A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 AM Monday in the church chapel. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 PM with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 PM Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the mortuary.
