Obituary of George McLean George M. McLean, Jr, 86, formerly of 334 Cole Avenue, died Sunday July 15, 2018, at the Lutheran Retirement Home. Born January 2, 1932, in Los Angeles, CA, he was the eldest son of the late George M. and Ethelyn Holcomb McLean, Sr. Raised in Erie, PA, he attended Academy High School graduating in 1950. After graduation, he continued his studies at Penn State Behrend Center and eventually Jamestown Community College.

A proud veteran of the Korean War, he served in the US Marine Corps from 1952-54 at Camp LeJeune, NC where he achieved the rank of corporal. On October 30, 1960, George married the love of his life, Karen Lois Davison in Strongsville, OH. Prior to his retirement he was employed most recently by Acu-Rite Company, Inc as a tool & equipment design & documentation coordinator.

Previous to that, he also held similar positions with Proto Tool division of Ingersoll Rand, Crescent Tool and Marlin Rockwell Corporation of Jamestown and Reed Manufacturing & General Electric in Erie. He was a longstanding member of The Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church.

“Maury”, as he was affectionately known by family, was intrigued by his Scottish roots and family genealogy, loved history of all kinds and was a strong supporter of the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and especially Indians, making an annual pilgrimage to Progressive Field with his brothers and other interested family members. He had special childhood memories of seeing Bob Feller pitch for the Indians while attending games with his father. Surviving are three sons Brian (Christine) McLean of South Glens Falls, NY, Brad (Vicki) McLean of Elizabethtown, KY and Todd McLean of Jamestown and five grandchildren: Joshua, Noah and Hannah McLean of South Glens Falls, and Luke and Mark McLean of Elizabethtown.

Also, two brothers Ronald (Carolyn) McLean of Amherst, NY and Robert (Lois) McLean of Warren, OH and one sister-in-law Cheryle (Dan) Huther of Findlay, OH. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Karen Davison McLean, who died September 17, 2015. A private family memorial service will be held at Christ First United Methodist Church.

Inurnment will be in the church’s columbarium. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Christ First United Methodist Church, 663 Lakeview Ave.
