Obituary of George Ludwig Belfast–George William Ludwig, beloved husband, father and Pop, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at his home in Belfast, ME from complications associated with Progressive Supra-Nuclear Palsy. George was born on December 31, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA to William and Adele Ludwig. He was raised by his mother and step-father Lee Hegh.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years and spent 18 months in Korea at the end of the Korean Conflict. He married Shirley Pascuzzo on June 25, 1955 and together they raised five children. George was a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Philadelphia for 25 years.

He was in the first graduating class of Paramedics for the City of Philadelphia. He also worked in the warehouse at Sears and Roebuck in Philadelphia, and had a painting and window washing business. Upon his retirement, he took a job at Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia working in the mailroom.

After moving to Maine, he volunteered at Waldo County General Hospital until his illness prevented him from doing so. George was a devout Christian, and served as a lay preacher at Frankford Baptist Church and then Oxford Circle Baptist Church. He started and taught the “Pairs and Spares” Sunday School class for almost 50 years.

He is survived by wife of 62 years Shirley (Pascuzzo) Ludwig; children Sandra and husband John Cameron, Brian Ludwig and Amy White, Donald and wife Deborah Ludwig, Charles and wife Kathleen Ludwig, Jennifer and husband Robert Brown. He was the beloved grandfather to 27 and great-grandfather to 17. Family and friends are invited to visit 4-6 PM Friday, April 27, at the family home at 70 Congress St., Belfast.

A celebration of George’s life will be held 11 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Oxford Circle Baptist Church, 6401 Loretta Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Maine Healthcare at Home, 15 Industrial Park Road, Saco, ME 04072.
