On Thursday, October 11, 2018, Gerald Bryne Garrett of Wardensville WV, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 86. Gerald was born in Wardensville, WV on December 10, 1931. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Grace Fishel Garrett and three children, Lisa Garrett Raiford (Dave) of Brentwood, TN; Kimary Garrett Prelaz (David) of Beckley, WV; Michael Bryan Garrett (Tina) of Kalamazoo, MI and grandchildren, Christopher Garrett Prelaz, Emily Chase… Read More » Raiford, Lauren Elizabeth Garrett, Matthew Brian Prelaz, Ian Blount Garrett and sister, Nina Garrett Rudy.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Paul P. Garrett and Edna Whetzel Garrett; sister Earleen Garrett King; brother Donnie West Garrett. After graduating from Wardensville High School in 1949 with a twelve-year perfect attendance record, Gerald served in the US Army, stationed in Salzburg, Austria from 1952 – 1954. He began his career as an aircraft mechanic with Alleghany Airlines in 1956, retiring from US Air in 1995.

Gerald and Grace lived in Falls Church, VA for over 50 years where they raised their three children, before moving back to their hometown of Wardensville, WV in 2010. Gerald was a member of the Wardensville United Methodist Church, the Wardensville Lions Club and VFW Post 2102. Sharing his love of fishing with his children and grandchildren, Gerald made many trips to Nags Head and the Chesapeake Bay.

He enjoyed playing cards, his weekly volleyball games with friends, and gardening. He especially loved sharing the family farm with his children and grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at the Wardensville United Methodist Church on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:30 AM.

Officiating will be Pastor Robert Oakley. Interment will follow in the Heishman Cemetery near Wardensville. The family will receive friends at the Loy-Giffin Funeral Home in Wardensville on Sunday, October 14 from 4-6 PM.
