OBITUARY Gerald Steele December 12, 1940 – September 27, 2018 Service for Robert Gerald Steele, 77, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church, 101 Boundary Street, Chapin, SC, officiated by The Rev. Ralph G. Hill.

Burial will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m.at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Gerald Steele, husband of Lynda Caldwell Steele, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Harold Clarence Steele, Jr. and Ellen Shealy Steele. Gerald was a graduate of Columbia High School and a member of Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Men in Mission.

He was recognized for each of the past 26 years by the Circle of Excellence Awards and was winner of its Transaction of the Year Award for 1997. Steele was active in commercial real estate transactions throughout South Carolina, with his primary area of focus being the Central Midlands area.

He was a member of: Chapin, Lexington and Irmo Chambers of Commerce; Lowman Home Advisory Board, South Carolina Association of Realtors; Central Carolina Realtors Assocation; Advisory Board of BB&T Bank (Chairman); Dutch Fork Masonic Lodge; Scottish Rite; Jamil Temple; and previously Served on the Greater Chapin Community Endowment Board; In 2001 he was inducted into the Chapin Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Chapin Ruritan Club and the Chapin Sertoma Club. He loved duck hunting with his boys, snow skiing with his brother-in-law, Mike, spending time with his friends and family and most of all, he loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Lynda; sons Gerald Jason Steele (Kim Stephens), Samuel Joshua Steele (Stacy); sister, Sarah Skenes; sister-in-law, Norma Steele; grandchildren, Jason Porter Steele, Ashlynn Finley Causey, Macay Stephens and Macencie Stephens. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his brother, Harold C. Steele, Jr. and sister, Marian S. Phelps.
