Obituary for Gladys Corbett Avery Gladys Hines Corbett Avery, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Farmer’s Funeral Home in Ayden. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Winterville Free Will Baptist Church.

Graveside Service will follow in the Ayden Cemetery. Mrs. Avery, a lifelong resident of Pitt County, was a member of Winterville Free Will Baptist Church where she played piano and organ for over 50 years. She retired from Southern Bank in Ayden.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Guy Corbett, and her husband of almost 2 years, Wallace Avery. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edward Clinton and Minnie Nobles Hines, as well as 7 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by daughter Guyla C. Evans and husband Wayne of Tarboro, son Marty Corbett and wife Laura of Ayden; grandchildren Christopher and Rebekah Evans and Hunter and Samantha Corbett; step children Lois and Buddy Davis of Bell Arthur, Tina and Mike Liebstein of Waxhaw, Henry and Wendy Avery of Farmville; step grandchildren Shannon Outlaw, James Davis, Nicholas and Elizabeth Avery, Gabriella Liebstein; step great grandchildren Austin Bass, Alice Outlaw, and James Christopher Davis.

Also surviving are two brothers Alton Hines and Dean Hines and one sister Barbara Jean Joyner; sisters-in-law Carolyn Tyndall, Irene Hines, Annie B. Hines, Lorraine Hines, Louise Hines, Barbara Hines and Lucille Avery. Gladys enjoyed playing piano for the senior groups at Immanuel and Rose Hill FWB churches. After “retiring” from the role of musician at Winterville FWB, she went on to play piano for Piney Grove FWB for 8 years.
