OBITUARY Gladys Lonon Smith January 12, 1924 – December 17, 2018 GLADYS LONON SMITH HICKORY – Gladys Lonon Smith. 94 of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2018 at Carolina Caring in Newton. Born on January 12, 2018 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late William Edgar and Julia Hicks Lonon.

Gladys will be remembered as a loving and selfless wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member at Viewmont Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Major Clyde Lail and James Cloyd Smith.

Survivors include her sons, Steve Lail and wife Lisa of Conover, Jeff Smith of Hickory; grandchildren, Stephanie Carroll and husband Martin of Hickory, Lyndsay Bui and husband Jon of Holly Springs, Devon Gantt and husband Blake of Hickory, Zach Smith of Hickory; great-grandchildren, Ethan Carroll and wife Heather of Hickory, Lacy Dula and husband Dustin of Hickory, Eli and Ian Bui of Holly Springs; great-great-grandchildren, Cooper Carroll of Hickory, Eviejoe Carroll of Hickory; sister, and Jean Patton of Morganton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 21 2018 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Rawls officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 PM 0 2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton,NC 28658. Condolences may be left at www.
