Gunile’s Obituary Gunile Fern Cox, age 73, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at her home. Gunile was born January 23, 1945 in Joplin, daughter of the late William C. Chaplin and Helen I. Hefner Chaplin. She attended Joplin Schools, and worked for years at Joplin Sheltered Workshop as a supervisor in the Laundry Department.

She was an active member of Seventh Day Church of God, where she served on the Board of Directors. She was a devoted wife, mother, and loving grandmother, and “cookie grandmother” to several great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Gunile was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Cox, and three brothers, Murphy Chaplin, Raymond Chaplin, and Delbert Chaplin. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Truman Cox; son, Rockford Cox and wife Margaret of Joplin; daughters, Victoria Blair and husband Donald of Armstrong, Missouri, Cheryl Mathis and husband Donnie of Seneca, Missouri, and Rebecca Clash and husband Patrick of Grinnell, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Belle Schell of Oregon, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be Monday, December 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery Pastor Denny Carver officiating, and Donnie Mathis, Dennis Mathis, Ray Pringle, Trevor Cox, Steven DePauw, and Justin Bird serving as pallbearers.
