Guy Confer, 80, of Mill Hall passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at his home. Born March 11, 1938 in Jersey Shore, he was one of the twelve children of the late Samuel Lincoln and Phoebe Tomb Confer. Guy graduated from Canton High School in 1956.

He then attended Lycoming College on a football scholarship and also wrestled, earning the name “Speedy Guy Confer”. He left college to serve in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged in 1962, he lived in Washington, D.C. and served as a cryptographer during JFK’s presidency.

Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he was employed briefly at Brodart. He then worked for Kyle’s Dairy while owning and operating Confer’s Grocery Store. Guy then began working for Tastykake until leaving to work as a Corrections Officer at the State Corrections Institution in Huntingdon, from where he finally retired.

On April 7, 2003 he married the former Rebecca Jodun. Guy had a lifetime passion for sports. He was active in both slow pitch softball and a bowling league.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp. Guy was an avid gardener, planting enough vegetables for most of Mill Hall. He never missed a Saturday night Poker Game with his family.

Surviving is his wife, Rebecca Confer of Mill Hall; three children: Doreen Murty, Doug Confer and David Confer; four grandchildren: Tyler, Seth, Cayden and Austin; three brothers: Bill, Dean and Ron; and a sister, Edna Morse. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Confer; three sisters: Dora, Edyth and Helen; and four brothers: Samuel “Tink,” Robert, Albert “Coon,” and Jack. Per his wishes, Guy was cremated.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 2 P.M. at Beech Creek Wesleyan Church, 217 Main St., Beech Creek with Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating. Memorial contributions in Guy’s name may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association through the funeral home.
