Obituary for Gwen B. Pickett MILLSAP – Gwendolyn Pickett, 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband, John Daryl Pickett on July 21, 2018. Gwen was born on Sept. 15, 1925, in New Orleans, La.

Gwen married John Daryl Pickett in 1950. They never left each others side even for a minute. After living in New Orleans, the family moved to a dairy farm in Lake Charles, La.

Later, in 1969 the family moved to Fort Worth. In 1981, Gwen and Daryl moved to their farm in Millsap to finally plant their roots permanently. They loved their farm dearly.

Being a devoted and loving mother, Gwen was very proud of her family and of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved holidays and family get togethers, any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She loved having visitors over and never would let anyone leave without sharing her Little Debbie snacks whether they wanted one or not.

One of the highlights of her year was watching the Triple Crown horse races with her dear friends and neighbors, Judy and Stephanie, and serving them watermelon. She was a lifetime member of the Garden Club in Millsap, where she had many friends. She loved solitaire, bingo and gardening.

She loved her animals as if they were people. Gwen was forever feisty and with a special sense of humor. She had quite an accent so everyone asked where she was from.

She would laugh and tell them in her unforgettable accent, New Orleans. She was a vibrant soul, one who lit up the room whenever she entered. And though small in stature, she was very independent, living almost until the end by herself taking care of her animals and her garden.

She was the most beautiful, sweet, loving woman but you knew she was fierce by the color she wore on her lips. She was never seen without her bright red lipstick. They say your lipstick color speaks volumes about your personality and hers definitely did.

Our lasting memories of her are simple: a hard-working, passionate figure of strength who never waned in her support of love of her family and friends. She never gave up on anything and always had a kind word of everyone. Momma, thank you for everything you’ve given us and the warmth we shared during your precious time on earth.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, John Daryl Pickett. Survivors: Daughters, Judy Clayton of Sweetwater, Leslie Rawlings and husband, Rodney, of Fort Worth and Carolyn Janzen and husband, Mike, of Fort Worth; sons, John D. Pickett of Weatherford and Keith Pickett and wife, Sandra, of Millsap; sister-in-law, Sherrianne Pickett of Arlington; nephew, Matt; cousin, Lottie Hunter of Florida; 14 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
