He was born August 16, 1926 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Gene proudly served in the United States Navy on the USNT, Great Lakes, III.

, USS Butler, USNT, Williamsburg, VA, USS Eldridge. During his service he received the Victory Medal, AmericanTheatre Medal, European Africian-Middle-Eastern Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. Gene was employed as a machinist at the Timms Springs Company.

He was a member of Weslyan Methodist Church. His hobbies included golfing and fishing. Survivors include his daughter in law Linda Manning of Elyria; his grandchildren Gregory Manning (Marika Serhane) and Kara Manning (Omar Osorio); his great grandchildren Lulliana and Olivia Osorio and Makalya Manning and many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years Betty Maxine Manning (nee: Smith); his sons Mickey Manning and Randy Manning; his siblings Chester, Richard, Glenn and Eula Lee; and his parents Jake and Dewey Manning (nee: Logden).

Friends may call Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave. , Amherst. The Rev.

James Smucker will officiate. Burial will be held privately at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home’s website to share a memory and sign the guest register, www.
