Obituary for Harold Junior Owings Harold Junior Owings, of Saline, formerly of Chelsea, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018. He was 82 years old. Born on April 17, 1936, he was the son of Harold and Evelyn Owings.

He graduated from Chelsea High School. Harold started his law enforcement career at the age of 21 with the Ann Arbor Police Department where he spent 4 years, at that time he joined the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department, where he was named both the youngest Head of Detectives as well as the youngest Under Sheriff in the state of Michigan, retiring after 20 years of service. After his retirement he was named Chief of Police for the city of Pontiac where he served as such for five years before retiring and moving to Florida where he met his wife Diana, while working at the Tampa International Airport.

But law enforcement was in his blood and he returned to Michigan in January of 1984 to serve as Superintendent of Police for Ypsilanti Township, serving there until his final retirement at the age of 74 in March of 2010. He had a love for good food and dining, and traveling with Diana. He is survived by his wife Diana Owings; two sons, Brian Owings and wife Wanda, and Kurt Owings and wife Terry; six grandchildren, Kevin, Stacy, Tyler, Derek, Joshua and Zachary; two great grandchildren Andrew and Emily; and one brother Ralph Owings and his wife Sharon, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
