Harold W. “Smitty” Schmidt, 81, passes on Friday, February 1, 2019, at 7:40 p.m., at Nokomis Rehab & Healthcare Center in Nokomis, IL. Per Harold’s wishes, his body was donated to medial science. No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Schmidt was born August 27, 1937, in Chicago, IL, to the late Erwin & Lydia (Brauer) Schmidt. He married Emma Reed and they later divorced. He then married Judith Carver, on November 8, 1974, in Hillsboro, IL.

She survives in Irving, IL. Mr. Schmidt had worked as a diesel mechanic for Caulk Bros. Trucking in Irving, IL.

He loved to fish, camp and take care of his lawn. Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife, Judy Schmidt of Irving, IL; four sons, Rick Schmidt, David Schmidt, Jim Schmidt & Michael Schmidt; two daughters, Gail Fray & Lori Rathbun; two step sons, Harley Root & Todd Kennedy; one step daughter, Reeda Bundy; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. .

Along with his parents, Mr. Schmidt was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Schmidt, in infancy, one brother, Robert Schmidt and one sister, Elaine Scobell.
