Hazel L. Bernard, age 99 of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Geneva Village Retirement Center. Born September 21, 1918 in Madison she was the daughter of Elsie (Chapman) & Wayne Ernst. She married Fred Bernard in Madison on June 9, 1937.
A 1936 Graduate of Madison High School Hazel was a member of Central Congregational Church. She loved bowling, reading, and gardening. A lifelong resident of Madison she loved her community and was a member of the YMCA, Madison Senior Center and the Joy Circle.
She loved her family and they enjoyed their time together. Hazel is survived by her daughter; Jan Warren of Madison; sons, Lynn Bernard of Canandaigua, NY, Gerald (Mary Ann) Bernard of the Philippines; 10 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Drought of Geneva; brother, David Ernst of Kent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bernard; her parents; son, Ronald Bernard, son-in-law, Lee Warren; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bernard; brother, Kenneth Ernst; and sisters, Betty Chapman and Joanne Robison.
Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River Street in Madison. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday July 28, 2018 at Central Congregational Church, 71 Park Street, Madison. Pastor Rick Hughes will officiate the service.
Final resting place will be at North Madison Cemetery. The family suggests contributions in Hazel’s name can be sent to the Madison Public Library, 6111 Middle Ridge Road, Madison, Ohio 44057 or the Madison Senior Center 2938 Hubbard Road, Madison. Ohio.
