Helen M. Hayes of Edinboro, PA, age 98, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2018 in Florida, surrounded by family. Preceding her in death was her husband, Walter F. Hayes, in April of 1989 and her two sons-in-law, Ralph Myers and John Morris. She is survived by her five children; Darla Myers, Larry (Susan) Hayes, Donald (Rita) Hayes, Audrey Morris and Lorraine (Peter Dowdell) Wolfe; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.

Helen was the matriarch of the family; the “glue” that held everyone together. Every year, in the month of August, she would host her annual “corn roast” at the Hayes farm on Angling Road, which many will remember as an amazing get-together for all family and friends. She was an avid bowler for T-Ray’s in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s.

As a farmer’s wife, she ran the fruit and vegetable stand at Lavery’s Corner in the 1960’s, and later at the Agway in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. She was a caregiver to many over the years, and a well respected member of her community. Helen loved her many dogs over the years and believed they were truly man’s best friend.
