Patricia Burke Hametz, 88, of Springhill Senior Living Community, died Tuesday, May 2, 2018 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center. Born May 23, 1929 to the late Dr. Clemens and Sarah Burke in Mahanoy City, PA. She attended Mahanoy Catholic and public schools and graduated from Goucher College, MD, as a Chemist.

This led to employment at TungSol Electric, Weatherly, PA, where Patsy met Thomas Hametz, married him and made a home in Weatherly. She attended St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Not only was Patsy a wife, mother, and grandmother, she was an Advocate for Retarded Citizens, a volunteer guide at the Eckley Miners’ Village, a renowned Weaver, Math and Chemistry Teacher/Tutor, ranked bridge player, and a master gardener/herbologist.

Patsy, Tom and son, Nick, spent their later years between Weatherly and San Lan Ranch, FL. , where Patsy competed in the Polk County Senior Games (Bridge). Patsy and Nick moved to Edinboro, PA in 2011 following the death of Tom and moved to Spring Hill in 2013 due to the onset of Alzheimers.

Patsy passed peacefully on May 2, 2018 under the loving care of Spring Hill Woodlands staff and Hospice. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, sons Michael and Nicholas, sisters Sarah and Nancy, brother Steve and her beloved Julia Mauschak who helped raise her. Patsy is survived by a daughter, Lisbeth; a son, Tim, a daughter-in-law Anne; a sister, Susie Marley; a brother, Tim Burke; granddaughters, Katie, Jessie, and Lauren, and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, Weatherly, PA, and burial of ashes will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Beaver Meadows, PA. Patsy would love that memorial donations may be made to Carbon Training Center, 100 Hazel St., Beaver Meadows, PA 18216.
