A memorial service for Deaconess Helen Johnson Moss of Tuskegee, Alabama who passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 will be held on Saturday, May 12th, 2:00 p.m. at New Mt. Zion M.B. Church, Rev. Larry Roundtree II pastor, officiating.

On October 28, 1935 Helen Johnson was born to Johnny Johnson, Sr. and Neva Mae Crittenden Johnson in Macon County, Alabama; she was the eldest girl. She attended Macon County School and graduated from Southern Vocational College as a stenographer in 1973. At an early age she was baptized and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Tuskegee.

She later joined Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Tuskegee Alabama, serving faithfully until Mother’s Day 2017. She was a dedicated member of the Sanctuary Choir, President of Deacon Wives Ministry, Missionary Ministry Treasurer, Kitchen Ministry, Women’s Reach Ministry and leading soloist for the church family. Sister Moss loved her church and she loved to sing.

She was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 44 years. She retired as Administrative Assistant to the Director. She was very dedicated to her profession.

Deaconess Helen J. Moss went home to be with her Savior, Sunday May 6, 2018, at 12:20 while hospitalized at the Florida Hospital, Tampa, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents she adored, Johnny and Neva Mae Johnson Sr., her husband, Herman Moss she affectingly referred to as “Pops”, two Brothers she loved, Johnny Johnson Jr., Frank Johnson and two sisters she loved, Geraldine J. Winn and Ordell Woods; son-in-law, Michael Collins, Sr. Helen enjoyed the simple things of life. She was elegant, she loved her family, and she enjoyed traveling to see her children, she was a jokester and said funny things to make people laugh but most of all her biggest hobby was “Serving the Lord”.

The memories of Helen Johnson Moss will be cherished, and her legacy will live through her children, Carol Collins, Jean Collins (Wesley), Joan Frasier (Erling); eight grandchildren, Melisa Boone (Andrew), Michael (Toni) Collins Jr., Sheila (Michael) Wayne Jr., Michelle Treva Collins, Brandi (Eric) Dailey, Ashley Ann Collins, and Nicholas (Bianca) Collins; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Louise Smith; one brother, Clarence (Doretha) J. Moss; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. special cherished friendships for Catherine Glaze Stakely and Larry (Mary) Davis. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
