Helen Mallamad, age 92 of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Alpine House in Toledo. Helen was a Toledo native, born on July 9,1927 to a Russian father, Esser Mallamad and an Austrian mother, Sarah (Blitzer) Mallamad. Helen graduated from the Hebrew school, Scott High School and the University of Toledo.

She became a registered medical technologist and a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Helen supervised the Pediatric Microbiology Lab at the University of Michigan Hospital for 10 years. She also worked for St. Vincent’s and Mercy Hospitals, and the Toledo Red Cross.

Helen was an active volunteer providing her expertise to Toledo and Parkview Hospitals, served with the Compeer Program, was a teacher’s aide at Old Orchard Elementary School and initiated a Thanksgiving program for the Sparrow’s Nest. After retirement, she experienced the joy of being a nanny. However, her most esteemed position was as a loving and encouraging Aunt.

Helen is survived by her many devoted friends, particularly Jo Ann Lewinski, Phil Podlish, and the special staff at Alpine House and Pelham Manor; her niece Sharyn (William) Sutton; nephews, Shawn M. Mallamad and Jeffery (Julie) Mallamad; great nephews and nieces, Max, Evangeline, and Will Sutton, Aaron and Gabriel Mallamad, Laura (Collin) Baukol, Alex (Chelsey) Stucker and Natalie Stucker; and 4 great-great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother Max Mallamad, loving sister-in-law Esther Mallamad and devoted niece, Mary Esther Mallamad. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Helen’s name to the Jewish Family Service or Sparrow’s Nest.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 1:00 pm. at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 420 Otter Creek Road, Oregon, Ohio 43460 www.
