Henry Black Hummel, 87, of Tiffin, died at 9:40 am Sunday, April 8, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Manor, Fostoria. Henry was born May 25, 1930 in Camden, New Jersey to Merwin and Sara (Black) Hummel. In 1955, he married Trudy Jefferson in Reading, Massachusetts, and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include three sons, Jeffry (Ellen) Hummel of Wilmette, Illinois, James (Nancy) Hummel of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joseph (Mary Beth) Hummel of Wilmette, Illinois; a daughter, Susan (Douglas) Mattia-Riggs of Tiffin; grandchildren, Jason (Veronica) Hummel, Justin Hummel, A.J. Mattia, Elizabeth Mattia, Sara Hummel, Evan Hummel, Dai-lin Hummel; great grandchildren, Jayston Hummel; step grandchildren, Britton (Rachel) Riggs, Bryce (Erin) Riggs, Brock Riggs; a step great grandchild, Brooklyn Riggs; and a sister, Fran Kaminski of Apache Junction, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Marjorie Watkins and a nephew, Scott Watkins. Henry earned a BA from Colby College, Maine, a MBA from Babson University, and a law degree from University of Baltimore.

He was an officer in the Navy from 1955 to 1958, during the Korean War, and he worked at PNC Bank in New Jersey until he was 75 years old. He then retired to Tiffin, Ohio. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Temple, Clyde, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, helped the Cherry Street Missions, and supported with donations many dog and cat shelters.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Harvest Baptist Temple, Clyde with Pastor Allen Holmes officiating, a reception immediately following the service at the temple. There will be no burial at this time. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund for the Harvest Temple Christian Academy.
