Henry W. “Hank” Miller passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the RaeAnn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Geneva. Born Henry William Miklasiewicz, son of Pawl & Catherine (Puiko/Proiko) Miklasiewicz on March 22, 1925 in Windsor, Ohio. He graduated in 1943 from Windsor High School and on the day of graduation received his draft notice for World War II.
During the war he served in France and Belgium as a combat medic with the Army’s 755th Field Artillery Unit. His experiences during the Battle of the Bulge left him with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for which he suffered the rest of his life. Upon returning to the states following the war he changed his surname to Miller.
He worked firefly as a salesman for Kaiser-Frazier automobiles in Orwell before being employed by the Standard Oil Co. of Ohio (Sohio). During his 33 years with Sohio, he managed service stations in Austinburg, Ashtabula and Geneva. Early in his career, while working at the Sohio station at W. Main St. & Eagle St. In Geneva, he met his future wife, Esther Fisher.
They were married in Geneva on December 15, 1949 and lived there until 1955 when they purchased a home in Saybrook where they both lived the remainder of their lives. He was a past member of the Saybrook Fire Dept. Firefighters Assoc.
where, in his later years, assisted with fire safety education at Saybrook Elementary School during Fire Prevention Month and the annual Saybrook Memorial Day Parade. He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Miller of Saybrook; a granddaughter, Chelsea (Jayson) Fowler of Wickliffe; a great-grandson, Brody; two step-great-grandsons, Anthony & Jacob and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his parents; three brothers, Anthony (stillborn), Euegene “Gene” & Glenn; a half-sister, Anne and a half-brother, Leonard Mikles.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Geneva Home of Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors and Crematory, 323 S. Broadway, Geneva with Rev. Aaron Drews officiating. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery where VFW Post #943 of Ashtabula will render military honors.
Calling hours will be Wednesday (2/20) evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O.
